The ACI certification program for Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician was developed to certify those individuals that possess the technical knowledge and skills to properly perform each of the required tests. The program content was developed by industry support and participation in a survey in which individuals contributed to the level of knowledge deemed necessary for this program.
This SCC program covers five ASTM test methods. Two of the test methods evaluate the flow characteristics of self-consolidating concrete. The Slump Flow test evaluates the flowing and filling ability or potential of an SCC mix, while the J-Ring test evaluates the passing ability of an SCC mix. Two other test methods evaluate the segregation characteristics of the mix, which is an extremely important property with SCC. One is a rapid method using a penetration apparatus on a properly prepared sample of SCC and the second is a more involved method, typically referred to as the Column test. In this method the operator captures a top and bottom portion of the SCC sample and ultimately determines the coarse aggregate fraction obtained from each section. The final test method evaluates your ability to properly fill a test specimen using SCC.
ACI Certification Card :
In order to be certified, two conditions must be met, namely to successfully complete the written examination and the practical examination.
Although there is no requirement in terms of training or experience, exams are designed in such a way that only competent and experienced installers can succeed.
This certification is valid for a period of five years.
ACI Certification Sessions :
Certification sessions are offered at different times of the year.
Sessions can also be organized on request for groups of 10 people or more.
Subjects of the theoretical and practical examination :
This program assesses proficiency in the following ASTM test methods and practices:
- C1610/C1610M – 14—Static Segregation of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using Column Technique
- C1611/C1611M – 14—Slump Flow of Self-Consolidating Concrete
- C1621/C1621M – 14—Passing Ability of Self-Consolidating Concrete by J-Ring
- C1712 – 14—Rapid Assessment of Static Segregation Resistance of Self-Consolidating Concrete Using Penetration Test
- C1758/C1758M – 15—Fabricating Test Specimens with Self-Consolidating Concrete
Written exam :
The examination consists of about 50 multiple-choice questions, divided into 5 sections, each covering an individual chapter.
Each section consists of 6 to 12 questions.
A maximum of 1 hour (60 minutes) is allowed to complete the entire examination.
To pass the examination, both of the following criteria must be met:
- At least 60% of the questions in each of the 5 sections must be answered
correctly (e.g., 6 correct out of 10 equals 60%). - At least 70% of all questions on the examination must be answered correctly
(e.g., 35 correct out of 50 equals 70%).
Practical examination :
The performance examination is also closed-book and requires actual demonstration of the required test methods and practices.
The examinee is assessed on his/her ability to correctly perform (or describe items verbally, where allowed) all of the required steps for each procedure.
Course of a session :
- A few days before the session: Theoretical review by Zoom (usually between 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.). The review is offered in French only.
- Day of the session: Written exam (without documentation) and practical exam in front of an examiner (usually between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.)
- No meals are provided
Cost :
- Full session : $700.00 plus taxes (includes documentation)
- Retake of the theoretical exam : $250.00 (plus taxes)
- Retake of the practical exam : $250.00 (plus taxes)
- Retake of the theoretical and practical exams: $500.00 (plus taxes)
Payment terms :
Registrations are online only on the website and payment can be made by credit card.
Note that your registration confirmation is also your invoice.
Cancellation Policy :
No refunds for cancellations within 2 weeks of the session. However, substitutions of people are possible. Also, if a study guide was sent to you, the cost for it will be deducted from the refund.
